Mixed martial arts, is a style of fighting that ‘mixes’ all forms of combat methods taken from various martial arts practices in Japan, Europe and Latin America. Though martial arts have been around as early as the Greco-Roman eras, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) came into being circa 1900. One of the most popular faces of Mixed Martial Arts was the late Bruce Lee, known to all as ‘the father of modern mixed martial arts.’ Presently, Mixed Martial Arts is fought inside a ‘cage’ or ring and has become a celebratory event like Wrestle mania.
In Mixed Martial Arts, men are expected to fight bare-chested while women may wear an outfit likened to a sports bra. The Mixed Martial Arts shorts are the most important component in fighting. It must provide the necessary protection to the groin area while not hindering or constricting movement of the legs.
Mixed Martial Arts shorts have become a fashion statement and a fearless announcement of who you are. Lots of new stores are marketing their line of multicolored shorts and the brighter and louder the statement they make the better.
Of the many brands of specialized Mixed Martial Arts shorts, Tapout, Dethrone and Jaco to name a few put in a lot of effort into creating Mixed Martial Arts shorts that are resistant to almost daily use and are made from material that are breathable and comfortable to wear. Also, the shorts have to fit ‘just right.’ A pair of shorts that hang too loose or tight could affect the competitor seriously causing blisters and abrasions. Mixed Martial Arts shorts come with an adjustable strap for this exact purpose.
There are two types of Mixed Martial Arts shorts. The tight shorts sometimes known as the Vale Tudo shorts after Brazilian martial arts in the 1950’s, and the loose fit. The tight fitting shorts have long grown out of style. Grapplers now favor the loose fit Mixed Martial Arts shorts over the former. They are emblazoned with the fighter’s sponsor name or url and look like boxers or surfing shorts.
If the shorts do have pockets they should be on the inside so that they don’t snag onto things while fighting. There can be no zippers or other metal attachments in order to ensure that grapplers don’t sustain unintended injuries.
For women in Mixed Martial Arts, a little bit more protection is required. Women, as I mentioned earlier, usually wear a sports bra or some other durable upper clothing with their Mixed Martial Arts shorts. It is important that women protect their upper body from being subject to any serious injuries. Women and also the men wear gloves, mouth guards, shin guards, groin guards and ear guards.
The women’s Mixed Martial Arts short is snug fitting. It too comes in two types, the bikini bottom and the short. Both these types are tremendously popular. As with the men’s, women’s Mixed Martial Arts shorts are emblazoned with the legends of their sponsors’ and come in a variety of colors.
